A typical library participates in half a dozen consortium or more, and library staff want to make sure they get value from these connections. There are many threats and challenges facing consortia today as well as opportunities for creating innovative new projects and services. 

This course will provide a basic understanding of the library consortium environment, including a brief history, the "why" consortia are important and three organizational taxonomies. The class will explore the threats, opportunities, challenges, and strategies in today's collaborative environment. The course will end with an examination of activities that occur in today's consortia, and an overview of the steps in launching a new cooperative service or project.
